New volunteers are provided with intensive training, coaching and mentorship from experienced volunteers and under the supervision and direction of program staff. They are also required to engage in self-directed study to learn about the supports and services available to victims of crime and trauma in our community.
All volunteers are invited and encouraged to attend regularly scheduled gatherings and training sessions and to review the wide array of resources and information available in the office as a way of keeping their skills and knowledge current.
"The compassionate and practical response of the support workers to my distress was immensely helpful in dealing with such an unexpected and upsetting experience. I want to commend staff and volunteers for their fine work and for the kindness and understanding extended to me and my children during the very difficult aftermath of a crisis. As time goes by, the early support immediately following the event has served as a good foundation for healing and recovery.”
