Testimonials

The effects of crime are often traumatic, impacting many areas of our life. Victims may experience shock, anger, isolation, disbelief, grief, confusion, fear and stress. All of these are natural responses to a traumatic event. Reactions and emotions can change as the days, weeks and months go by.

These feelings may be compounded by having to deal with physical injuries and/or financial loss.

Although we cannot eliminate crime or prevent trauma, we offer the support, information and understanding needed to help through the healing process. Our services are free, our staff and volunteers are highly skilled and we are ready to provide assistance in times of crisis.

“One never knows when tragedy can strike and when it does, one can only hope to find the resilience to get through it in one piece and be stronger as a result. It’s people like you with your kindness and consideration that are helping to ease the pain.”

“The compassionate and practical response of the [support workers] to my distress was immensely helpful in dealing with such an unexpected and upsetting experience . . . I want to commend the GVPVS staff and volunteers for their fine work, and both their kindness and understanding extended us during the very difficult aftermath of a crisis.”
