About Us
Since 1983 Greater Victoria Police Victim Services (GVPVS) has provided emotional and practical support for victims of crime and trauma. We are a registered non-profit society with charitable tax status. We are governed by a 14-member board of directors, of which half are representatives of the police organizations with whom we work and half are civilian members.
Greater Victoria Police Victim Services is a unique victim service agency in British Columbia. We are the only integrated regional police–based victim service agency in the province, we serve the 12 municipalities in the Capital Regional District, and we work in partnership with the seven police organizations in our region:
- Central Saanich Police
- CFB Esquimalt Military Police
- Oak Bay Police
- Saanich Police
- Sidney/North Saanich RCMP
- Victoria Police
- West Shore RCMP
We are contracted by the Ministry of Justice to provide services in the capital region that are mandated by the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). We are funded primarily by the Capital Regional District and the Ministry of Justice, and we receive generous in-kind support from the Victoria Police Department. The District of North Saanich also makes an annual financial contribution.
